12 Lead ECG

This 12 lead ECG interpretation course targets the person that has little to no experience reading a 12 lead ECG. The course assumes the learner has an understanding of basic ECG rhythm interpretation and will cover the anatomy of an ECG tracing, lead placement and cover the 6 step method of 12 lead interpretation.

ECG 101: Basic Rhythm Interpretation

This basic rhythm interpretation course is for healthcare providers or students that are required to interpret ECG monitor strips or wish to learn more about rhythm interpretation. This self-directed, three module course introduces providers to normal cardiac rhythms and prepares learners to recognize basic cardiac dysrhythmias. Module 1: Basic ECG interpretation introduces the basics of ECG interpretation including wave labelling and the basics of lead placement and ECG paper. The Normal Sinus Rhythm is discussed in detail and sinus node arrhythmias are introduced. Module 2: Atrial Arrhythmia discusses how to differentiate an atrial dysrhythmia from a normal sinus rhythm. Atrioventricular rhythms are also discussed in this module. Module 3: Ventricular Arrhythmia discusses how to identify/recognize ECG rhythms originating in the AV Node (junction) and/or from the ventricle.

EKG Practice Cases

These practice cases take the student through reading a 12 lead and conclude in the official diagnosis. These cases assume you have prior 12 lead knowledge.

Capnography

This course is designed to give an overview of EtCO2 while meeting this objectives:

  • 1. Understand why we use capnography.
  • 2. Define normal and abnormal EtCO2 values/waveforms.
  • 3. Understand which patients you should use capnography on.
  • 4. Identify EtCO2 wave forms and what they mean.

Case-based Learning Modules

These modules dive deep into a case from the first call to the scene and then transport to the hospital. You will use your knowledge and skills to determine the best course of action for the patient. Each case will allow you to choose your own path. Where you correct in your diagnosis?


OB: Apgar Assessment

This 15 minute module will review the components of the Apgar score for calculation after birth.

OB: Care After Delivery

This short (15 minute) module will review the basics of caring for Mom and baby after a pre-hospital delivery.

OB: EMS Childbirth Procedures

Within this module we will outline the procedures associated with the delivery of a newborn during the spontaneous and uncomplicated delivery process.

OB: History and Assessment

This 45 minute course will give you an in depth review of history taking and assessment skills necessary for the OB population.

OB: Pregnancy Complications

This course covers some basic pregnancy complications. It will provide you with 1 hour of OB content. The journal articles are also provided in the "additional references" tab for your convenience.

OB: Preparing for Childbirth (EMS)

Within this module we will outline the four stages of labor for patient assessment purposes and describe the actions that should be taken by the EMS provider in order to prepare for imminent delivery.

Pediatrics: Development and Communication

This 15 minute module will review the Erikson's fundamentals of development as well as practical tips for communicating with children at various ages.


Podcast Topics

These topics range from Deescalation to Professionalism to Difficult Conversation tools. Most of these podcasts last around 30 minutes.

This 15 minute module will review the features of a Sam Splint and demonstrate correct splint use for common joints.

Trauma: Shock Index

This course, presented by IU Health Trauma Surgeon, Dr. Timothy Pohlman, explores 2 methods that can be used in the pre-hospital setting to identify hemorrhagic shock. These tools can be used to identify decompensating patients prior to traditional symptoms, allowing for early intervention and better outcomes.

Trauma: Splinting Complications

This 20 minute module will review some of the most common splinting complications and discuss ways to prevent them. Additionally, there is a link to an 11 minute video explaining compartment syndrome.

Trauma: Tourniquet Application

This short (15 min) module will walk you through each step of tourniquet application.

Trauma: Traction Splints

This 15 minute module will review both common types of traction splints, proper application, and when to use them.

Trauma: Wound Packing and Hemostatic Agents

This 15 minute module will review the basics of wound packing and various hemostatic agents.
